From peaceful lakeside loops to iconic greenways and scenic estate roads, these are the routes we keep coming back to.

River Arts District Greenway

Location and Parking

Road Difficulty and Terrain
This flat, paved path runs alongside the river and winds through Asheville’s colorful art district. It’s perfect for a relaxed run or tempo workout with minimal elevation. You’ll pass murals, studios, and the occasional food truck—making it one of the most vibrant and sensory-friendly running routes in town.

Creative Community Vibes
Running here gives you a dose of Asheville’s artistic soul. You’ll likely share the path with other runners, cyclists, artists, and coffee drinkers. It's a great out-and-back route with plenty of people-watching and creative energy.

Reed Creek Greenway

Location and Parking
The Reed Creek Greenway runs through the Montford neighborhood and near the UNC Asheville campus. You can park at Asheville Botanical Gardens or at Weaver Park. It’s also easily accessed on foot from downtown.

Road Difficulty and Terrain
This is a short, paved greenway that’s mostly flat and perfect for easy miles, shakeout runs, or linking up with other roads and trails in the area. It runs along a peaceful stretch of creek and passes through parks and quiet residential areas.

Link Up for More Miles
Reed Creek Greenway connects to other parts of the city’s greenway system, including the Glenn’s Creek Greenway. It’s a great launchpad for runs that head toward the Botanical Gardens, downtown, or loop back through the historic Montford district.

Bent Creek Experimental Forest

Location and Parking
Situated within Asheville city limits, Bent Creek is easily accessible and a favorite among locals. Park at the Hard Times Trailhead.

Trail Difficulty and Terrain
The trails here are hilly, featuring a combination of wide forest roads and narrow single-track paths. Whether you're seeking a leisurely run or a tough workout, Bent Creek offers something for everyone. You can easily run 10-20 miles in Bent Creek, thanks to its extensive trail network. Whether you're in the mood for a short jog or a long-distance run, Bent Creek has you covered.

Community Vibes
Bent Creek is not just about running; it's a place where the local community gathers. On any given day, you'll find fellow runners, mountain bikers, and families enjoying the great outdoors together.

Beaver Lake Loop

Location and Parking
Beaver Lake is located in the North Asheville neighborhood, just off Merrimon Avenue. You can park along the road near the lake or in designated areas at the Beaver Lake Bird Sanctuary.

Road Difficulty and Terrain
The main loop around Beaver Lake is just under 2 miles, flat, and primarily a soft gravel path that runs alongside the road and the water. It’s an ideal spot for easy runs, recovery days, or short intervals. The path is well-used but never too crowded, and the lake views make every lap feel meditative.

Loop It or Build It Out
Do a few laps for an easy day, or connect to nearby neighborhoods and roads like Lakeshore Drive or into the Grove Park area to add mileage and hills. It’s also a popular spot for stroller runners and walkers, thanks to the smooth terrain and calm setting.

Biltmore Estate

Location and Parking
Located just south of downtown Asheville, the Biltmore Estate offers over 20 miles of paved and gravel roads through its historic and picturesque property. Parking is available inside the estate after passing through the main gate—note that a day pass or annual membership is required to access the grounds.

Road Difficulty and Terrain
The roads at Biltmore range from gently rolling pavement to more challenging gravel climbs. You’ll pass through open meadows, wooded stretches, vineyard views, and get glimpses of the iconic Biltmore House and gardens. It’s ideal for a peaceful long run or a scenic progression workout.

Worth the Entry
While it’s not free to run here, a day pass gives you access to the estate's trails, restrooms, post-run dining, and even wine tastings. It’s a great spot to turn a solo run into a full Asheville experience—especially if you’re hosting out-of-town running friends or celebrating a milestone run.
